Aloo Chaat (Hindi: 'आलू चाट') is the name of a street food item made in North India. It is prepared by frying Potatoes in oil and adding spices and chutney.
It is a snack which can be served as a potato salad or a light meal.It is made from boiled and fried cubed potatoes served with chat masala. It is a versatile dish that is prepared in many different ways by different
people in different regions across the country. The word “Aloo” means potatoes in Hindi and the word “Chaat” is derived from Hindi word Chatna which means tasting. Thus, Aloo Chaat means a savory potato snack. It is also spelled as Alu Chaat.
Normally we are used to eating various chaat dishes like bhel puri ,panipuri,ragda patties,dahi batata shev puri or shev poori
Try this different and easy alu chaat which can be made in a jiffy
It is sold by vendors all over the streets of India, and has only recently made an appearance in the West.
Ingredients:
Boiled Potatoes,cubed 1/2 inch - 2
Lemon juice 3 teaspoons
Salt to taste
Oil to deep fry
Onion ,chopped 1 large
Chaat masala 2 teaspoon
Red chilli powder 2 teaspoon
Cumin powder 1 teaspoon
Green chillies,chopped 2
sev 4 tbsp
green chutney 4 tsp (optional)
sweet chutney 2 tbsp (optional)
coriander-cumin seeds (dhania-jeera) 2 tbsp
roasted peanuts - 1/4 cup
raw green mango - 1/4 cup chopped
Anardana (pomegranate pearls /dalimba dane) - 1/4 cup
Fresh coriander leaves,chopped 3 tablespoons
Method
1.Heat sufficient oil in a kadai till medium hot. Add potato pieces and deep fry till crisp and golden. Drain and place on an absorbent paper. ( i had shallow fried potato)
2. Transfer the potatoes into a big bowl.
3. Add onions, salt, chaat masala, red chilli powder, cumin powder, green chilies, roasted peanuts ,and other ingredients .add sweet tamarind chutney & green chutney.
4. mix half coriander leaves ,half sev and the remaining lemon juice
5. To serve transfer the mixture into a serving bowl, garnish with coriander leaves ,half sev ,pomegranate pearls
6.serve immediately.
