Oats Upma | healthy breakfast recipe


After realising health benefits of oats my endeavour is to try various oats recipes as a part of breakfast.I have become a recent fan of  oats and since then  trying different varieties in it. My first attempt was oats dosa ,next was oats appe /appam which were successful .Third recipe was instant oats idly/idli .Fourth being this healthy,light and easy Oats Upma  yesterday for breakfast. This will be a good choice for weight watchers. Try this oats upma for a changeover in your food.


Ingredients:
Oats - 1 cup ( I had used saffola oats )
Onion - 1
Tomato- 1
green capsicum chopped - 1/2 chopped
green peas -2 tsp
Water 3/4 cup
Oil - 1 tsp.
Green chilli - 1-2
Lemon - half
sugar - 1 tsp
Coriander leaves - 2 tsp.
Salt as per taste

Tadka/seasoning:
Mustard (rai) - 1/2 tsp
Oil - 2 tsp
Urad dal - 1/2 tsp.
Curry Leaves - 6-8



Method:
1.Dry roast the oats until it gives a good aroma. Do not over burn it.  keep aside
2.Chop onions ,tomatoes,coriander leaves and green chillies finely.
3.Heat oil in a pan and season it with the seasoning ingredients.
4.Add Onions,tomatoes and green chillies and saute until onions become translucent and all the raw smell disappears. 



5.Next add capsicum & peas & fry for 3-4 minutes .Add sugar, salt and saute for a minute.
6.Add oats and saute well for 2 minutes and it smells good. 


7.Sprinkle little water  to ensure that oats doesn't become soggy.
8.Add lime juice and garnish with coriander leaves.



Tip:
1.Do not add more water since oats will become soggy. Hence  sprinkle water little by little.
