Instant Tomato (thakalli) Dosa recipe | No fermentation andhra dosa


I like to experiment on DIFFERENT dosa varieties especially after coming to hyderabad  and hence keep on searching for same , one such attempt was  tomato dosai /dosa.Tomato Dosa is a crispy & tasty culinary delight , that tastes unique as they sound..!Tomato dosa is very easy to prepare . There are 2 ways  of making it .

First way - Soak 1 1/4 cup rice & 2 tbsp toor/tuvar dal for 2-3 hrs. Drain and grind smoothly the rice and tur dal with chopped tomatoes, dried red chillies (de-seed), curry leaves ,grated fresh coconut, jaggery, coriander leaves, salt and little water to form a dosa-like batter. The dosa batter need not be fermented as tomato is there for tanginess.Prepare dosa in regular way.

Second way - . You can also prepare this dosa instantly, with tomato puree added to the already prepared dosa batter.

Today I am posting second method using readymade batter.
So here is a red colored gorgeous tomato dosa  a treat for your eyes and tastebuds.



Ingredients:

Tomato - 2 big  chopped
Coconut - 2 tblspn
Chilli powder - 2 tsp
Curry leaves - 1 spring
cumin powder- 1 tsp
asafoetida(hing)- 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil- 1 tblspn+ for pan frying


Method:

1.Heat oil in a kadai. Add chopped tomatoes and salt and mix well. Cook for 3 mins till mushy.

2.Now take this in blender along with coconut and make into a puree.


3.Add this to dosa batter along with chilli powder,cumin powder,hing and curry leaves.Mix well.


4.Heat a tawa and with a laddle  spread the dosa evenly on it.



5.Drizzle some oil around the sides and cook for a min on one side. Flip over and cook.


6.Remove and serve  with capsicum chutney .



Tips:

•Spread the batter thin to get a crispy dosa.
•You can also add chopped onions,coriander leaves  to the batter which adds nice flavour to the dosa.
