Mint coriander coconut chutney |Pudina Kobbari Kothamalli Pachadi

I tasted it for the first time when my friend had send me a plate of idlis along with this Mint Coconut Chutney & south tomato chutney.I simply loved the taste & thought of replicating it after getting the recipe from my friend .I had made this for grilled /toasted vegetable sandwich which i will be posting soon.but you can make it for idli, dosa, appe, paniyaraman. I used the left over coriander along with home grown pudina and coconut to make this easy minty  chutney

This chutney is a twist from the regular pudina/mint chutney which we make for chats, pakodas, dhoklas /samosa

Ingredients
Fresh Coriander leaves/Kothmir/Hara Dhaniya – 1 cup
Fresh Mint Leaves/Pudina – 1 cup only leaves
Garlic pods – 4, roughly chopped
Green Chillies – 4-5 washed and chopped
 Curry leaves – 6-8
1 tsp jeera (cumin seeds)
Tamarind ball –  size of a lemon / lemon juice 3 tsp
Dry Desiccated Coconut – 1/2 cup
 Salt – as per taste
  Oil – 1/2 tsp

For tempering/tadka:
1 tsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds (rai)
1 dry red chilli
pinch of hing/asafoetida
8-10 curry leaves

Method :
1.In a non stick pan add oil and as it warms up, add the shredded coconut roast it till light brown and aromatic.  Keep aside to cool
 2. Put the tamarind ball in a cup of warm water. Once the tamarind pulp is all soft, sieve the pulp and keep it aside.
3.Wash and drain all the leaves on a colander.
4.Blend coriander leaves, mint leaves, garlic pods,  chillies, curry leaves, tamarind pulp,  shredded coconut and salt  till nice and smooth in a mixer. You can add about half cup of water to aid in the blending if needed.
5.Serve chilled  with Idli, Dosa, appe ,Pakoda, Bhajiyas, Samosas, Kababs,  Aloo Paratha. or just a side dish with dal chawal .

Tempering/phodni  ( is optional)
6. Heat oil in a pan for the tempering, add the mustard seeds, let them pop and add the dry red chilli and curry leaves and fry for a few secs. Finally add the asafoetida and immediately add the seasoning to the ground pachadi.

Tip:
1.you can add a few roasted groundnuts to the Chutney which makes it more flavorful
2. Add 1 tsp of dahi to chutney
3.add 1 tsp of coriander seeds while grinding
