ONION DOSA |OATS ONION DOSA | Vengaya dosai




Till date I Knew only about masala dosa & plain dosa. It was only after shifting to hyderabad I was exposed to a wide gamut of dosas.I tasted onion dosa first at wipro,hyderabad canteen & next at my building neighbours house. There are different kinds of dosais.. plain dosai, masala dosai, adai dosai, paruppu dosai, onion dosa, thakkali (tomato) dosi, kal dosa, uthappam, mini uthappam and many more never ending varieties. Dosai is like a flexible daughter-in-law, always ready to get accustomed to all kinds of situations

Now, let’s make / onion dosa! The crispy taste of fresh onions roasted very lightly on top of the dosai is something to relish. The preparation of this dosai is very simple & adds a twist to the normal dosas .It could be a big hit with guests!



Ingredients :

Basic dosai batter – approximately 4 cups
onions –2/ 3 medium
green chillies - 2/3
coriander leaves(kothmir /dhania patte) - half cup 
Oil  -as needed
Ghee – as needed

         












Method :

 1.Take approximately 3 to 4 cups of basic dosa batter ( For basic dosa batter click here )
 2.Finely chop onions ,chillies & coriander ,sprinkle litte salt (dosa batter also has salt) and keep them separately in a bowl.
 3.Heat the dosa griddle/ tawa .sprinkle with water to check if tava is hot if you get a crackling sound means tava is ready .let water evaporate.
 4.Spread  a ladle of  dosai batter and make a medium crispy dosa.










 6.Sprinkle some chopped onions,coriander leaves & green chillies on the dosa  and oil around the edges.Or you can Spread a little ghee /butter for better taste.. but this is optional.

7.Let it cook well and turn golden brown for 2-3 minutes.
8.Take care while turning dosa to ensure that onions doesn't spill. 
9.Let the onions become brown.
10 Transfer the dosai in a serving plate.
11.Serve with any chutney of preference.
