Prawns Masala marathi recipe | Kolambi curry masala Goan style



This spicy and tangy prawns masala curry is a  feast for every prawn lovers.

I noted this from marathi tv show mejwani paripoorna kitchen.ever since i have made chicken vindaloo recipe i have been a fan of goan style food .

Though i am not a sea food lover i can eat prawns especialy the smaller variety ones.












Having Grown up in konkan coastal region  I have seen fish curry called kolambi kalwan in marathi , fried prawns, stuffed fish, fried crabs in my childhood though I hardly ate any fish ,I just had the fish curry and for me mom used to add potatoes in the kalwan.I normally make my moms style kandyavarchi kolambi but tried this last sunday & end product was definitely hot spicy as well as tangy

Adjust the number of red chillies as per your spice levels


Ingredients :

1 cup medium sized deshelled prawns (10-15)

Masala to grind
2 tbsp coriander seeds
5-6 red chillies ( I used half guntur chilli & half red kashmiri chillies)
7-8 pepper (miri)
2 inch cinamom stick (dalchini)
2-3 cloves (lavang)
2 tbsp lemon juice /vinegar

Remaining ingredients
2 small sized onions chopped finely
2 medium tomatoes finely chopped
1 -2 green chilli chopped
1 tbsp garlic chopped
2 tsp ginger garlic paste
1 tsp Kashmiri chili powder for colour
1 tsp red chili powder
½ tsp garam masala.
1 tsp haldi or turmeric powder
1 tbsp vinegar /lime juice
1 tbsp butter+1 tbsp oil
Finely chopped coriander for garnish
Salt to taste.






 METHOD

1.Wash prawns & remove vein (black thread) from each prawn

2.Dry roast & grind the ingredients mentioned above under  "Masala to grind " .



3.Marinate the prawns in a bowl with1 tsp ginger garlic paste ,lemon juice ,turmeric ,1 tsp of grinded masala in step 2 and salt. Mix well and set aside while you make the spice powder and paste.











4 heat oil & butter in a pan.Add chopped garlic & green chilli & saute for few seconds .next Stir fry onions till light brown, add ginger garlic paste and stir.



5.Add the chopped  tomatoes and stir fry for 1 minute .next add remaining grinded masala in step 2 & add red chili powder,kashmiri chili powder,turmeric powder,garam masala & mix well & saute till oil separates.


6.Add the marinated prawns, add a little water as per the consistency you want  and let it cook till the prawns are cooked, which takes about 3 to 4 mins.do not over cook prawns as they will turn hard when overcooked .




7.Lastly add lemon juice /vinegar & switch off gas .

8. Garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves .

9.Serve with hot chapati  or steaming hot rice & sliced white onions  (pandhra kanda)
