Dates Chutney recipe | How to make khajur chutney

A sweet and tangy date chutney is prepared by blending soaked dates or khajur with jaggery and tamarind


This delicious dates chutney can be served with dhoklas, fried snacks or even as topping for chaats.A sweet and sour date chutney that goes brilliantly with pani puri, alo chaat and all kinds of crispy snacks.

Basic recipe adapted from Tarla Dalal.







Ingredients

115 gms dates (khajur)
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1 pc green chillies
1/4 tsp coriander (dhania) powder
1/8 cup chopped coriander (dhania)
5 gms tamarind (imli)
5 gms sugar
a pinch of asafoetida (hing)
1 tsp chopped ginger (adrak)
1/2 tsp oil
salt to taste

Method

1.De-seed the dates, wash and blend in a mixer along with green chilies, ginger, 1/8 cup coriander leaves and cumin seeds till smooth.
2.Add the red chilli powder, coriander powder, sugar, salt and tamarind pulp and blend again till smooth.
Add the remaining coriander and mix well. Transfer in a bowl and mix well. Keep aside.
3.Heat the oil in small pan and add the asafoetida.Pour this to the chutney and mix well.Serve immediately or store refrigerated.
