Instant Oats Idli | Oats breakfast idli step by step recipe

I have become a recent fan of  oats due to  wide range of health benefits and since then  trying different varieties in it.

My first attempt was oats dosa ,next was oats appe /appam which were successful .Third recipe is todays post namely instant oats idly/idli .I finally made it last weekend as a part of breakfast menu.Result was soft and tasty idlies. I used the procedure of instant rava idli with slight modifications for oats idli It tastes more like rava idly. I use saffola oats you can try with nay other brand too.I served it with onion chutney.

We all are well aware that oats is a very healthy and nutritious food and as breakfast is the most vital meal of the day, the perfect way to start it would be with a bowl of oats. There is no doubt that oatmeal has been ranked as one of the best foods which can fight against cholesterol and a single bowl of oatmeal contains several vital nutrients such as complex carbohydrates, B vitamins, fiber, and minerals such as phosphorous, iron, selenium, and calcium.

The best benefits of oatmeal for weight loss is that it is a great source of fiber. The oatmeal is a soluble fiber, which means your body slowly moves this food product through your digestive system, allowing you to feel more satisfied for long amounts of time.
There is no doubt over the fact that a fiber rich diet leads to lowering of cholesterol and it also helps to control diabetes, obesity and cancer.

2 tsp split chick pea lentil (chana dhal) /white split urad dal

10-12 broken cashew nuts (optional)

1 carrot grated

5-8 curry leaves

2 tsp mustard seeds

2 tsp salt ( or according to taste)

1 tsp baking soda

2 tbsp  oil  for greasing idli moulds

plain yogurt (about 1 1/2 cups for the entire quantity of oats idli powder)

Method :

1.Dry roast the saffola oats in a heavy bottomed pan on  medium high heat stirring continuously until it turns creamy/light brown. Keep aside to cool for a few minutes.

2In the meanwhile dry roast the semolina on  medium high heat for 3-4 minutes stirring continuously, then remove from heat and keep aside to cool.

3.Once cool, grind oats coarsely in a mixer . Take care to  grind them  to a coarse consistency.

4.Mix the cooled semolina, salt ,ground oats together.

5.Heat oil, add mustard seeds to it, when mustard seeds begin to splutter add chana dhal or urad dal and cashews to it and saute for a few seconds.once dal and cashews turn brownish, add cut green chillies ,curry leaves, carrot, saute for  a minute .

6.Pour seasoning on the dry mixture of oats and semolina made in step 4 & mix well .

7. Mix with equal parts of plain yogurt to mixture prepared in step 6. Add baking soda and mix well.

8.Grease idli moulds and place spoonfuls of this mixture into each mould and steam for about 10-12 minutes.

9.Remove from heat, cool for about a minute, remove each idli with help of spoon

Tips :
  1. Proportion of yoghurt should be equal to oats & suji.
  2. You can  use pepper flavour oats  for idlis
  3.  Once the idli batter is mixed with yogurt it should  be steamed immediately for fluffy idlis hence only mix required quantities of mixture with equal amount of yogurt.
  4.  Maintain the proportion of 2: 1 for oats to semolina
