MATAR PATTICE|green peas PATTIES |Matar Alu ki Tikki-kabab

I am having lots of  free time currently due to break from work...So evenings are the time when I try snack recipes.. & then we have light dinner...Yesterday I tried matar pattice....I had been longing to make this dish since few months but couldnt overcome my laziness.Yesterday finally I attempted this recipe which turned out to be a crispy starter..

Peas are one of the most nutritious leguminous vegetable, rich in health benefiting phyto-nutrients, minerals, vitamins and anti-oxidants.

Peas are relatively low in calories when compared with beans, and cowpeas. 100 g of green peas provide only 81 calories, contain good amount of soluble and insoluble fiber but contains no cholesterol.

Fresh pea pods are excellent source of folic acid. 100 g provides 65 mcg or 16% of recommended daily levels of folates. Folates are B-complex vitamins required for DNA synthesis inside the cell. Well established research studies suggest that adequate folate rich foods in expectant mothers would help prevent neural tube defects in the newborn babies.

INGREDIENTS:
PATTICE COVER
4-5 mashed boiled potatoes
1 tspn coarsely crushed green chilli
2-3 Bread slice dipped in water /2-3 tbsp bread crumbs
salt
PATTICE FILLING
1 cup boiled green peas (matar)
1 tspn ginger garlic paste
1 tspn green chilli paste
2 tspn wet coconut (i used desicated coconut)
1tspn sesame seeds (til)
1 tspn dhania jeera powder
1tsp garam masala
1 tspn lemon juice / chat masala
sugar pinch
salt as per taste

Method
  1. Mix all ingredients of stuffing in a bowl & grind it in a mixer to form a coarse mixture ( it should not be a paste).

  2.

  3. Next heat oil in a pan & saute the above mixture for 2 minutes & set aside to cool.
  4. Mix all ingredients of cover & make a  smooth dough.
  5.
  6. .Take a small portion of dough mixture & flatten it on your palms .Gently shape each ball into a cup.
7.Stuff the peas filling into the cup.

8.Seal the cup tightly and flatten a little bit on your palm.

9.To deep fry the patties, heat oil in a deep pan .

10.Fry patties on medium heat till color changes to golden brown and they turn crisp.
11.Serve with ketchup, tamarind chutney or mint chutney.

Tips/variation
  • Oil should be really hot when you put the pattice in the oil as otherwise the potato mixture will stick to the pan.
  • You can make a lighter version of this by frying it on tawa by sprinkling oil all over instead of deep frying in a pan.
  • Substitute breadcrumbs with maida/cornflour
