Vatleli jeera dal | Cumin flavoured maharashtrian toor dal




Vatleli jeera dal is a classical maharashtrian dal made with toor dal & cumin coconut 
vatan.

Vatleli means grind and vatan means coconut cumin paste .
This dal is made by boiling toor dal adding few spices & then mixing vatan

This is a light flavoured tasty dal which goes well with rice .You can even drink this dal .

Try this dal when you want a change in your meal .

Ingredients :

1 cup toor dal
1 tsp jaggery (gul)
1-2 tsp turmeric
1 tsp hing (asafoetida)
salt as per taste


 grind to paste

1/2 cup wet  coconut
1 tbsp jeera (cumin seeds ) soaked in water
2-3 garlic
1 tbsp coriander leaves (kothmir)
1 green chilli

 


Method:

1. Soak toor dal in water for minimum half an hour .Wash dal thoroughly & pressure cook (5-6 whistles) till soft adding turmeric,hing & 2 cups of water .





2. Grind the ingredients under to grind to make a fine paste adding litte water.


 

3. Mash the dal with a masher .Now add water (as per consistency thick or thin ) ,jaggery,turmeric,hing ,salt ,grind paste in step 2 & give it a boil & switch off the gas.


 


4.Serve with rice & a dash of ghee.
