SABUDANA CHIWADA|UPWAS SAGO PHALAHARI CHIVDA|VRAT NAMKEEN MIX

A very common  item eaten during fasting in maharashtra & india . This mixture is made from  ingredients used during fasting days like sabudana/sago (tapioca), grated potato chips (batata kees) ,groundnut ,green chilli / red chilli powder  & cumin seeds. We use a special type of sago called as nylon sabudana for making this  fasting chivda mixture .this  sago is different than the normal sago we use for sabudana khicdi.

Ingredients :

Nylon Sago / nylon Sabudana : 2 cups
Peanuts/shengdana /groundnut : 1 cup
Cashewnut ( kaju) : 1/4 to 1/2 cup
Green Chillies - 3 to 4
Grated potato chips / sukha batatycha kees - 1 cup
Cumin seeds /jeera - 1 tsp
sugar to taste
Salt to taste
Oil for deep frying

Method:

1. Wash green chillies and pat them dry.  Chop the green chillies.
2. Heat enough oil for deep frying. Deep fry chopped chillies till they turn crisp.  Save it for later.
3. Deep fry Nylon Sago till the sago pearls almost double in size.  Do not add too many pearls at a time, sago will remain uncooked. Drain and place them on a tissue paper and set aside.
4.  Deep fry peanuts till they turn slightly brown in colour.  Drain and place them on a tissue paper and set aside.
5. Also fry the cashews. Fry the grated  potato chips till it turns golden brown .Fry the cumin seeds & keep aside
6. In a mixing bowl, add fried peanuts, cashew, fried cumin, fried sago and green chillies.  Add salt, sugar and fried potato chips.    Mix well and Sabudana Chivda is ready.
7.  Store it in an air tight container after cooling.Enjoy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Variation:

1. Use 1 tsp red chilli powder instead of green chillies.

2. Use 1 tsp cumin powder instead of cumin seeds
