Palak Idli | Green Spinach idli


Idli is a popular dish of south India made from rice & lentils & serves as a most popular breakfast in south india.Most of the children like it.  Todays idli is known as hari idli /green idli /spinach idli /palak idly/ hari bhari idly unlike the traditional white idli. Addition of spinach paste makes this idli healthy & nutritious.. I added palak puree to make this  green idli .ven Children who don’t like palak/spinach will find this attractive.

You can garnish it with fried cashew nuts, grated carrot and grated beetroot















Ingredients:
Idli batter –3 cups ( For idli batter recipe pls click here)
Palak puree (spinach puree) – 1 cup
 Oil/Ghee – 2 teaspoon

 For seasoning /tadka


 Mustard – 1 teaspoon
 Pepper (kali miri) –  half teaspoon
 Cumin (jeera)– half teaspoon
 Bengal gram(dahalya) – 1 teaspoon
 Urad dal – 1 teaspoon
 Asafeotida – generous  pinch
 Green chilli – 2 no
 Ginger – small piece
 Coriander and curry leaves – few

For garnishing:

Cashew nut/grated beetroot/grated carrot
 


Method :

1.Chop ginger, green chilli, coriander leaves, curry leaves finely.

2.Fry cashews with half teaspoon ghee and keep aside.

3.Add oil in a pan and do seasoning with mustard, cumin, pepper, Bengal gram, urad dal, asafetida; now add chopped green chilli, ginger, chopped curry leaves, chopped coriander leaves fry well.






4.Add this seasoning to idli batter .Next add palak puree & mix well.








5.Grease idli mould with oil /ghee; place one or two fried cashew, grated beetroot, grated carrot  in the individual  mould as shown in the pictures.

6.Now pour green idli batter on top of fried cashew, grated beetroot, grated carrot respectively.

7. Fill the pressure cooker with 2 glass water & remove cooker lid .next place idli mould in cooker & steam for 15-.20 minutes.

8. Open the cooker after 10 minutes  &  remove the idlis  with the help of  a  spoon.



9.Now attractive  Palak Green Idli is ready.


 

10 Serve  with tomato / coconut chutney / milagai podi.
