Raw Mango Rice Recipe (Andhra Style)|Mamidikaya Pulihora |Maavinkaay Chitranna

Todays recipe is an interesting rice recipe from south india named as Raw green mango rice.

This version of Mango rice is Andhra style prepared with raw mangoes. It is very easy to prepare, needs less ingredients and tastes similar to the South Indian Lemon Rice.

If you love lemon rice, then you will definitely love this mango rice also. In this recipe,we are adding grated mangoes instead of lemon juice to give a tangy taste to the dish.

In Karnataka, they make a similar version of raw mango rice during festivals called Maavinakayi Chitranna in which they add a little grated coconut (2-3 tbsp) in the end.

Ingredients:
2 Cups Cooked rice
1 cup grated raw green mango
7-8 slit green chillies
3-4 tbsp chopped coriander
1/4 cup groundnuts
6-8 curry leaves
1 tbsp chana dal
1 tsp urad dal
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp haldi(turmeric)
salt
oil

Method:

1)Heat oil in a big kadai, crackle mustard seeds, add groundnuts and fry until skin comes out.

2)Now add urad dal, chana dal, green chillies, curry leaves and fry till the chillies are crisp.

3)Add grated mango(save 1/4 cup for final garnishing) and turmeric and fry for 2-3 minutes.Cool the mixture completely.

4) Now add rice, salt, grated mango(kept aside),chopped coriander and mix everything well.

Note:

Rice should be cold while mixing or else it will turn mushy

Use sour/tangy mangoes for this dish. If your mangoes are not sour enough, then add a little more than 1 cup.

You can add cashew nuts instead of peanuts if you prefer.

You can use left over rice also for this recipe.
